ITINERARY

Day I – South Africa/Indonesia
The excitement is high as we board our overnight flight from South Africa to Jakarta, for an unforgettable journey that matters.

Day II – Jakarta (meal included: Dinner)
We arrive in Jakarta and transfer to our hotel. For dinner we will enjoy Indonesian cuisine at our hotel. Overnight: 4-star accommodation in Jakarta area.

Day III – Jakarta/Bogor/Bandung (meals included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
After breakfast, we drive to Bandung via Bogor to visit the Bogor Botanical Garden with more than 10.000 species of plants collected from all over the world. On entering Bandung city, we stop at a local restaurant for lunch. Before heading to our hotel, we will visit the Asian-African Conference Museum in Bandung’s art deco district. We end our day by having dinner at our hotel. Overnight: 4-star accommodation in Bandung area.

Day IV – Maribaya/Padasuka (meals included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
After breakfast we head to one of Indonesia’s active volcanoes, Tangkuban Perahu to get a close-up experience of its crater. After lunch, we visit a local market in Lembang, showcasing various Indonesian fruits and vegetables. From here we’ll drive to Padasuka village to enjoy the Sundanese cultural performance at Saung Udjo and play the traditional Angklung bamboo music instruments. We will have dinner at a local restaurant, after which we will head back to our hotel for a well-deserved rest. Overnight: 4-star accommodation in Bandung area.

Day V – Bandung/Yogyakarta (meals included: Breakfast & Lunch)
After an early breakfast, we head for the Bandung train station to take a rail journey to Yogyakarta. During the journey, we will see beautiful panoramic views along the mountain slopes and experience the diverse beauty that is Indonesia. We will enjoy our lunch on board the train. Upon arrival in Yogyakarta, we will transfer to our hotel. We can enjoy the rest of the day at leisure exploring the vibrant city, trying some local foods or browsing some shops and markets at leisure. Indulge yourself in the friendliness of this laid back city. Or head to the buzzing centre of Yogyakarta, Malioboro Road on a Becak (local rickshaw). This road changes after sunset into a beating heart, with wonderful local street food restaurants, interesting shops and exciting nightlife. This is a uniquely Yogyakartan experience. Day VI – Yogyakarta/Magelang (meal included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
After breakfast we will visit one of the traditional villages in Yogyakarta to experience their way of life and interact with them. We will also enjoy a cup of coffee or tea with the locals. Hereafter, we make our way to Borobudur, the biggest Buddhist temple in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage site. We will enjoy lunch in a restaurant with a breathtaking view before heading to Prambanan temple (another UNESCO World Heritage Site), the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia and one of the biggest in Southeast Asia. We will enjoy our dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight: 4-star accommodation in Yogyakarta area.

Day VII – Yogyakarta city centre/Kotagede (meal included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
We enjoy our day by exploring Keraton Yogyakarta (Yogyakarta Palace) with its elegant Javanese architecture. This is one of only a few Sultan traditions still active in a modern Indonesia. Hereafter, we’ll visit Tamansari, the Water Castle, inside the palace compound. It is believed that this was the area where the Sultans rested, meditated or escaped from their enemies. Afterwards, we will visit Pasar Beringharjo, a local market, to shop for some local crafts and the traditional cloth, Batik. From here we head for an arts and crafts centre to admire the silver artworks and learn about the silver making process in Kotagede. We enjoy traditional Javanese cuisine for lunch in the oldest area of Yogyakarta. We end our day by having dinner at a beautiful local theatre whilst watching the traditional Ramayana Ballet. The performance is full of colour and at 40 years it’s the longest running theatre production in Indonesia. Overnight: 4-star accommodation in Yogyakarta area.

Day VIII – Yogyakarta/Jombang/Tosari (meals included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
After enjoying our early breakfast we board the train to Jombang. We continue our journey by bus and stop at Trowulan village, to visit the ruins of Majapahit, the strongest Kingdom of in the history of Java. We will enjoy our lunch at a local restaurant before continuing to our hotel in the Tosari region located 1,700 meters above sea level. We end our day by having dinner at our hotel. Overnight: Lodge accommodation in Tosari area.

Day IX – Mount Bromo/Surabaya (meals included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
We start our day very early with a 4x4 jeep ride to Penanjakan View Point, approximately 2,700 meters above sea level, to view the beautiful Mount Bromo. After experiencing a magical sunrise we take a leisurely hike down the crater of Mount Bromo. Afterwards, we head back to the hotel for breakfast and some rest before heading to the city of heroes, Surabaya. Upon our arrival in Surabaya we will have lunch at a local restaurant before visiting the House of Sampoerna, the kretek (traditional pure tobacco and cloves) cigarette museum. We will pass through the Chinese and Arabian areas of Surabaya before heading to our hotel for a well-deserved dinner and rest after a long day. Overnight: 4-star accommodation in Surabaya area.

Day X – Surabaya/Bali (meal included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
We board our flight to Bali and drive to Uluwatu visiting one of the biggest cultural parks in Garuda Wisnu Kencana. We have a light lunch surrounded by spectacular views before driving to one of the most famous Hindu temples, Tanah Lot. We end our day by having scrumptious seafood with our feet in the sand at a beachfront restaurant whilst watching the sun set over magical Bali. Overnight: 4-star accommodation in Kuta area.

Day XI – Kintamani/Ubud (meals included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
This morning we head to the Kintamani area, to have a light breakfast with Mount Batur in the background. After breakfast, we will visit Trunyan, a village on the banks of Batur Lake, with its very unique burial practice where the locals leave the corpse in the open air after the cleansing process. We take a local boat to get to the cemetery. The Taru Menyan tree in the centre of the cemetery island emanates a certain scent that keeps the corpses from smelling. Hereafter, we will have lunch at a local restaurant in Ubud before exploring the Ubud Art Market for some traditional arts and crafts. After a long day of unique experiences we end our day by having dinner at a local restaurant before heading back to the hotel. Overnight: 4-star accommodation in Kuta area.

Day XII – Kuta city centre (meal included: Breakfast)
We enjoy our day at leisure by walking down to the beach, browsing some local shops, relaxing in a local spa, or just lazing about with a cocktail and some wonderful eats. Lunch and dinner can be had at leisure. Overnight: 4-star accommodation in Kuta area.

Day XIII –Bali/Jakarta/South Africa (meal included: Breakfast)
After breakfast, we’ll transfer to the airport for our flight to Jakarta. Sadly it is time for us to leave Java Bali Overland and board our overnight flight from Jakarta to South Africa.

Day XIV – South Africa
We arrive in South Africa.
